The Gift Of Confusion

Let’s make this very clear. COVID-19 has delivered confusion – and it’s a gift to the nation.

Confused?

The confusion over school closures and student attendance is exposing decades of blatant disregard for our children and their education. And Australia is finally starting to take notice.

Amid the confusion, these are the facts:

·     School attendance is not compulsory for children

·     Schools are not essential workplaces or essential venues for teaching and learning

·     Schools, however, are recipients of federal funds, distributed by each State or Territory.

In other words, our States and Territories have a monopoly on the education of our nation’s children.

When unwrapped, the gift of confusion actually contains a new clarity.

Every Australian should be asking this essential question:

When can parents expect to receive financial assistance, and freedom of choice, when determining who educates their children, and where they are educated?

Freedom and choice – two powerful words that best describe Western civilization. Surely, there’s no confusion about that!
