In every situation in which we find ourselves, perspective can be a friend or an enemy.
Covid-19 is fast-tracking our connection with an unfamiliar way of life. It’s also delivering renewed faith in strategic leadership.
Never before has the world braced itself for so much change in such a short space of time. Never before have world leaders collectively gathered on the world stage, ably holding their positions and demonstrating just how unenviable they are.
Naturally, the future will offer us the opportunity for reflection, with the benefit of hindsight. Now, however, is not the time to find fault in the others’ behaviour but to find solace in our own.
Collectively, we have one critical strategy: to stop the virus. In individual cases, many other strategies will continue to unfold. And regardless of all strategic actions, change is inevitable, and will have an impact.
And let’s make no mistake. The most significant impact will be on the family unit, regardless of its current status.
For service providers who make significant contributions to the family unit, a rational strategy and sensible execution couldn’t be more important.
Be wary of industry providers offering solutions to their predetermined view of your problem. Instead, embrace those who encourage conversation, provide a platform where you can be heard, and offer a genuine relationship that responds to your current status.
Above all else, remember this: you can’t choreograph the future, but you can be prepared for it.
Family Matters
We’re all hurting in some way. We’re all seeking guidance. We’re all in need of connection.
From a personal perspective:
· If you communicate via social media, avoid posting on Facebook. Use Messenger instead.
· If you use your phone, make a voice call instead of a text message.
· Put away your technology; make eye contact and talk.
· Sit together at the dinner table for your meals.
· Be creative in giving each other space, comfort and security.
From a professional perspective;
· Remember that colleagues are family members.
· Consider what must be given highest priority.
· Understand that every strategy executed will have an impact on family life.
· Realise that much of the impact is yet to unfold.
· Be kind to yourself.
Complimentary Strategy Hour
Whenever I was asked which field of expertise was the focus of my consultancy, coaching and advisory work, I would always find it difficult to provide the perfect ‘elevator statement’. I’ve learned, however, that a focus on home-school-work-family life is central to developing and executing a Rational Strategy that will achieve the desired measurable outcomes of any organisation.
Under the current circumstances, this couldn’t be more necessary for school education and family life.
During this most unusual time, to remain dedicated to those I serve, I am offering a complimentary strategy hour for leaders of education, and a complimentary 30-minute consultation to parents who are adapting to home schooling.
You will not be invited to download, subscribe or pay for any services without that most necessary first step – a conversation.
Please accept my apologies for reaching out to you in this way, but I feel it would be remiss of me not to offer help to those who might be in need.
Stay safe. Stay strong. And, above all, stay positive.
Here’s my email if you’d like to reach out.
